Finding out what's going on
Look out regularly in the local media for:
- Scrutiny adverts calling for your views
- public hearing dates and times
- updates on the progress of individual reviews
To date, the ‘Scrutiny Matters’ newsletter has been sent to all households twice a year. This provides updates on reviews, opinions and feedback on Scrutiny work, information about the members of Scrutiny panels, and information about Scrutiny in general.
Suggest a topic for review
Anyone can make a proposal for a topic, at any time of year. We keep all suggestions on file. You can submit a proposal:
- in writing (to the Scrutiny Office, based in Morier House)
- via the website - go to the ‘Get involved’ section
If you need help, please contact the Scrutiny Office.
Current reviews
To find out what's being looked at by Scrutiny panels right now, you can:
- check the 'Reviews' section of this website
- pick up a leaflet from the States Assembly Information Centre at Morier House
- contact the Scrutiny Office
Past reviews and reports of reviews
A full report is produced at the end of every Scrutiny review. A brief summary leaflet is also produced, which gives an introduction to the topic and describes:
- the Scrutiny members involved
- terms of reference
- the executive summary
- findings and recommendations
What is a panel meeting?
Scrutiny panel meetings are generally held in public and anyone is welcome to attend and observe. There are regular meetings for each panel, where they discuss progress on their work. If there is a confidential item on the agenda, you will be asked to leave for that period.
What is a panel hearing?
Scrutiny panel hearings, where a witness is invited to give evidence on a particular topic, are also usually held in public and anyone is welcome to attend and observe. Unlike meetings, hearings are recorded in order to gain an accurate note of the evidence heard.
